Relaxation of body muscles is sometimes a very difficult task. Muscle spasms and pain can be a result of some disorders in the body. In most cases, the best solution is to start an appropriate treatment to eliminate the causes of the problem. But what if the pain so strong that you can’t wait? Muscle relaxants are special drugs that are aimed to help you in this situation.
Relaxers are used when there’s an urgent need to relieve ache in the back, thigh, neck, and any other part of the body that hurts. These medicines have a row of significant advantages:
- They reduce the muscle tone and prevent its reflective activity. For this reason, they are frequently used in anesthesiology and surgery.
- They block neuromuscular impulses. It reduces the number of pathological impulses to the nervous system, which protects the body from stress, for example, during an operation.
- They prevent muscle spasms in pathological conditions like epilepsy, tetanus, rabies and other diseases.
- Muscle relaxants do not lead to amnesia or faintness, they only act in the affected area of the body.
Do not take muscle relaxants without a doctor’s prescription. It is highly recommended to start taking the relaxants in a hospital, so that the doctor could see and control the reaction of the body. If there is a strong negative respond from the body, the treatment has to be immediately stopped. In this case, another medicine should be prescribed.
Inappropriate medicine or incorrect dosage can cause a number of side effects:
Drowsiness; Insomnia; Nausea, vomiting, stomachache: Heart rhythm disturbances, fluctuations in blood pressure; Dry mouth; Problems with urination; Hyperkalemia; Increased intraocular pressure; Fasciculation (typical for some muscle relaxants).
The muscle relaxants are not recommended for people who suffer from liver disorders. They may exacerbate the problem, cause stomachache and jaundice.
If you are feeling abnormal muscle pain, an examination should be taken to set its reasons. Normally, a complex approach in treatment is taken. This includes a course of certain exercises, massages and medical treatment.
